Éric du Bellay a passé son enfance entre l’Argentine, la France et l’Espagne. Après des périodes d’études et de stages à Madrid, Paris, Oxford, New York et Séoul, il est diplômé de l’École Supérieure de Commerce de Paris (ESCP Business School) en 2004 avec une thèse sur « Une typologie du succès dans le cinéma français ». Il intègre ensuite un DEA de Cinéma, option scénario et réalisation, à la Sorbonne, et devient l’assistant de Josée Dayan. Fort de cette expérience sur les plateaux, il travaille comme assistant réalisateur pour Benoît Cohen, Philippe Haïm, Jan Kounen, Gérald Hustache-Mathieu, Bruno Dumont, Eve Deboise et Zabou Breitman.
Il s’impose comme un cinéaste accompli, avec une riche carrière de court-métragiste et treize années d’expérience en tant qu’assistant réalisateur sur les plateaux de cinéma. Il signe en 2008 Blanche (18’), avec Clémence Poésy et Romane Bohringer, un court-métrage acquis par France 3. Suivent La Nuit des gendarmes (15’, 2011), avec Yann Gaël et Pauline Alcaïde, et Blind Seam (8’, 2016), réalisé dans le cadre de la résidence d’artiste Gullkistan, en Islande. En 2017, il réalise L’Attente (24’), avec Adèle Simphal et Paul Granier, un film primé dans de nombreux festivals et diffusé sur France 2. Il poursuit avec Père et fille (22’, 2019), une comédie dramatique portée par Sébastien Chassagne, sélectionnée au prestigieux Festival de Palm Springs.
Parallèlement à ses courts-métrages, Éric développe plusieurs projets. Son premier long-métrage, If Adam Picked the Apple, bénéficie de l’aide au développement du CNC et est actuellement en plénière différée pour l’avance sur recettes. Le film rêvé depuis longtemps est produit par Jokin Etcheverria, la Fidèle Production. Il travaille également sur un roman historique, Le Radeau de La Méduse, pour lequel il a reçu l’aide à l’écriture de la région Île-de-France.
En 2023, il réalise Menina Casilda (1h25), sa première œuvre audiovisuelle autoproduite, tournée à Madrid avec Álvaro de Paz et Paula Varela, désormais disponible sur Amazon Prime Video. Parallèlement à son activité de réalisateur, Éric est également photographe, avec à son actif de nombreuses expositions et participations à des foires d’art internationales. Enfin, il partage son savoir en dramaturgie en tant qu’enseignant et coach dans diverses institutions et entreprises.

Éric du Bellay spent his childhood between Argentina, France, and Spain. After periods of study and internships in Madrid, Paris, Oxford, New York, and Seoul, he graduated from the ESCP Business School in 2004 with a thesis on « A Typology of Success in French Cinema. » He then enrolled in a postgraduate program in Cinema, specializing in screenwriting and directing, at the Sorbonne, and became Josée Dayan’s assistant. Building on this on-set experience, he worked as an assistant director for Benoît Cohen, Philippe Haïm, Jan Kounen, Gérald Hustache-Mathieu, Bruno Dumont, Eve Deboise, and Zabou Breitman.
He is an accomplished filmmaker with a rich career as a short film director and thirteen years of experience as an assistant director on film sets. In 2008, he directed Blanche (18’), starring Clémence Poésy and Romane Bohringer, a short film acquired by France 3. This was followed by Royal Hotel (15’, 2011), with Yann Gaël and Pauline Alcaïde, and Blind Seam (8’, 2016), created during the Gullkistan artist residency in Iceland. In 2017, he directed The Wait (24’), starring Adèle Simphal and Paul Granier, a film that won numerous awards at festivals and was broadcast on France 2. He continued with Father and Daughter (22’, 2019), a dramatic comedy featuring Sébastien Chassagne, which was selected for the prestigious Palm Springs International ShortFest.
Alongside his short films, Éric has been developing ambitious projects. His debut feature film, If Adam Picked the Apple, received funding from the CNC and is currently at the Plénière de l’Avance sur Recettes. Jokin Etcheverria, La Fidèle Production, produces the long-dreamed-of film. Éric is also working on a historical novel, The Raft of the Medusa, which was awarded writing support by the Île-de-France region.

In addition to his filmmaking, Éric is a photographer with numerous international art fairs and exhibitions to his name.
